Random Ubuntu stuff

LXDE

If you have an older/slower computer you should really try the LXDE desktop environment, as it is really blazing fast and needs only minimal resources to operate. It provides the legacy "Windows experience" which is still quite usable to this day. The only thing I personally missed from modern enviroments is the ability to ctrl + drag windows and the grid alignment feature of compiz.

You can install it by typing this command in the terminal:
sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop

After installing you have to log out and log back in choosing Lubuntu as the desktop environment.

QMMP

I started listening to podcasts recently and have been using audacious as the audio player. It is simple and useful but recently had trouble fast forwarding and rewinding the podcasts.

I tried QMMP for the legacy Winamp look and it provodes an excellent experience. You can also set it to use global keyboard shortcuts to pause/play with a built-in plugin.

You can install it by typing this command in the terminal:
sudo apt-get install qmmp

For me the default theme was buggy, here is an awesome alternative:
